For Nhi, love Erin

It was about 2:30 in the afternoon when Donghae got home from Christmas shopping that day. The shopping trip had gone rather well as far as Donghae was concerned. It was amazing that he was able to fit as much time in for shopping as he had managed to do that day, what with Super Junior’s busy schedule and all. Not only did he have an odd amount of time, he hadn’t been mauled by fangirls. Always a plus, whenever that rare moment of peace happened.

There was only one thing wrong; Donghae had yet to find Kibum a Christmas present. How could he not have a present for his boyfriend with only 2 days left until Christmas? This was going to be their first Christmas together as a couple and Donghae had wanted it to be perfect. However, it looked like that wasn’t going to happen.

Donghae was pacing nervously in his room, trying to think of what to get Kibum. There had to be something that Kibum would want.

Computer games?
No, he already had all of the ones he wanted and Donghae knew that Heechul had already gotten Kibum the video game he really wanted. Asshole.

Books?
Once again, Kibum already had all the ones he wanted. That, and Ryeowook had gotten Kibum the book that he wanted.

There had to be at least something that Kibum would need! Panic seeped through every pore of his body as Donghae began to hyperventilate. What good boyfriend couldn’t think of what to get their boyfriend for Christmas?! Donghae sat down on his bed and rested his head in his hands. His eyes were screwed shut in concentration as he tried to think of something to get Kibum. There must be something and he just hadn’t thought of it yet.

“I’m really sorry Kibum!!!”
“Sorry doesn’t fix my watch!”

Donghae’s head snapped up.

A watch?

Donghae smiled in relief and headed for the door.

Donghae was all but skipping when he got back to the apartment. He had managed to find the perfect watch for Kibum and thus was feeling quite pleased with himself. He went to his room, shut the door, and quickly placed Kibum’s present under the bed with all the other presents. He couldn’t wait until Christmas!

“Come on, just one hint?” Donghae smiled mischievously at Kibum’s whining voice and giggled.

“No.” He tried to keep his smile from getting any bigger as Kibum threw him a pouty look. “It would ruin the surprise! Don’t you want to be surprised?”

Kibum looked at the kitchen tiles sulkily. “Surprises are overrated.” This earned an amused laugh from Donghae.

Donghae turned around to face Kibum while leaning against the kitchen counter. “Well then, tell me what you got me.” There was a hint of challenge in his voice as Donghae said this.

“No!”

“Oh. Well why not?”

“Ummm…” Kibum looked around the room as if something in the kitchen would offer him some sort of revelation as to what he should say. Donghae made the mental note that Kibum was quite cute when he didn’t know what to say, but of course Donghae thought that Kibum was cute all the time so maybe it didn’t make much of a difference. “You know what? Fine! I’ll wait.”

Donghae restrained the urge to taunt Kibum some more and instead settled for wrapping his arms around Kibum and kissing that pout away.

“I can’t believe you roped me into this.” Hyukjae complained as he tried to figure out the best way to fold the wrapping paper around Ryeowook’s new headphones and CD. “My present better be good or I swear to God I will prank you so bad that Kibum will be trying to avenge you for years.”

Donghae laughed at Hyukjae’s empty threat. It was Christmas Eve and everyone besides him and Hyukjae had a schedule today so Donghae was making the best of his time. Hyukjae had barged into his room without knocking and had tried to find his present, which it turns out Donghae had already wrapped. Donghae promised that if Hyukjae helped him wrap everyone’s presents that he would let Hyukjae open his tonight. Needless to say, Hyukjae immediately ran to the kitchen and found some masking tape.

“Soooooooo.” Donghae braced himself once he heard Hyukjae’s teasing tone. “What’d you get Kibum?”

“A watch.”

“Sweet!” Donghae raised an eyebrow at Hyukjae’s ecstatic response. “This means I won’t have to pay to get his watch that I broke fixed. You are a life saver!” After he finished his sentence, Hyukjae all but flung himself at Donghae and hugged him. “I’m so happy that if I didn’t mind getting my ass kicked by Kibum I would kiss you!”

Donghae pushed Hyukjae off of him. “No thanks.” Donghae fidgeted at his spot on the floor before asking Hyukjae the question that had been on his mind since he got the watch. “Do you think he’ll like it?”

Hyukjae looked at Donghae like there was something seriously, mentally wrong with him. “Well duh. He would like anything you gave him. Don’t worry about it.”

“I’ll try not to.”

Hyukjae smiled at Donghae in what he hoped was a reassuring manner. “Trust me, he’ll love it. Now please tell me how the hell am I supposed to wrap this fucker? This is a fucked up package.” Hyukjae looked down at the package containing the earphones with a look that could only be described as pure hatred and Donghae was almost positive that he heard a mumbled, ‘I fucking hate you.’ Spill out of Hyukjae’s mouth as he battled against the package and the wrapping paper.

It was finally Christmas day and the boys were busy shooting another episode of Exploring the Human Body. It was actually pretty fun because Dong Bang Shin GI was there as well and they hadn’t seen those guys in awhile.

By the time they got home, everyone was exhausted. Donghae did not let this stop him from the task at head. He went around the apartment giving everyone their Christmas presents. Kibum hadn’t come over yet so he was nervously anticipating giving him his present.

When Kibum finally made it, everyone had managed to move into the kitchen. Everyone was squished together trying to give their presents to someone. Donghae spotted Kibum at the edge of the kitchen and started to shove people out of his way to get to his boyfriend.

In the chaos that was the kitchen, everyone was trying to get somewhere else and so of course people got bumped around a bit. For someone who was as small framed as Ryeowook, it was difficult to stay standing up. All he really wanted to do was find Jongwoon, snuggle up by a fireplace, and drink his hot chocolate. Fate (More like the sheer stupidity of 13 boys shoved into one small kitchen all trying to get somewhere else or trying to hand things to someone on the other side of the room) had other things in mind however.

It was when Donghae was right in front of Ryeowook, who was still clutching his hot chocolate protectively, that Youngwoon stumbled back into Ryeowook. This caused Ryeowook to trip and lose grip of his hot chocolate, which then fell and spilled all over Donghae and his gift.

Time seemed to stand still as Youngwoon turned around and started apologizing and asking if Ryeowook was ok. Jongwoon forced his way over to Ryeowook and helped him pick up the glass. Ryeowook briefly mourned the loss of his hot chocolate but quickly realized that said hot chocolate had spilled all over Donghae.

“Are you ok Ryeowook.”
“You’re not hurt are you?”
“Oh my god! I am so sorry Donghae!”

Donghae was in shock. The watch! He frantically pulled the watch out of the bad only to find that it was covered in hot chocolate and had ceased to work. Donghae’s eyes stung as he fought to hold back his tears. Maybe he was being a little melodramatic but he couldn’t really help it. He shoved the watch bag into the bag and quickly vacated the kitchen. He bumped into Kibum as he left and quickly handed over the bag and fled to his room as quickly as he could manage.

This sucked. How had he managed to fuck this up?

An hour later, Donghae was snuggled deep into the blankets of his bed, trying to get some sleep. The incident had been on constant replay in his head and he couldn’t help but feel like an idiot.

He shouldn’t have just stormed out like that. It probably only made Ryeowook feel worse. It really wasn’t his fault. It wasn’t Youngwoon’s fault either. They really should move to a place with more room. He shouldn’t have just left Kibum.

He had spent hours agonizing over what to get Kibum and when he gets the right present, it gets broken. Donghae felt too guilty to face Kibum right now.

Donghae was almost asleep when he heard a light knocking at his door. “Go away.”, he mumbled sulkily into the pillow.

The person at the door didn’t hear Donghae or they just decided not to listen because a second later Donghae’s room was flooded with light from the hall.

“Hey.” Kibum closed the door and walked over to Donghae’s bed. “You know, it’s not your fault.”

Donghae had the strong urge to just play dumb but he knew that Kibum wouldn’t let him get away with it. “I’m sorry.”

He could hear Kibum chuckle. “I already said it wasn’t your fault. Besides, I can always just make Hyukjae pay to get it fixed since he broke my other watch.” Donghae had to smile as he tried to imagine Hyukjae’s reaction to this news. “Or I could just get it fixed myself. I really like it though.”

Donghae still didn’t move out from under the covers of his bed. “Really?”

“Really really.”

Donghae was slowly drifting off to sleep when he felt the slight lift of covers and Kibum crawling into the bed nest to him. “You still haven’t gotten my present yet.” After he said this Donghae felt an envelope being pushed into his hand. With a small sigh Donghae sat up and turned on the lamp next to his bed.

It was far too bright for Donghae’s unadjusted eyes as he opened the envelope. He was surprised to see that there was no card but there was something that looked an awful lot like, “Plain tickets? To Junnam?!”

Kibum grinned at Donghae. “I know that you miss your family right now and we’re going to have almost a week off next week so I thought you might want to visit them. There’s two tickets so you can bring whoever you want.”

An overwhelming feeling of joy swept over Donghae as he stared at the tickets. He missed his family so much. He was surprised anyone had noticed because he never mentioned it. Donghae always tried to be strong and was always supporting everyone else with there emotional problems. He was overcome with bliss at the fact that Kibum put this much thought into his gift. “Would you come with me?”

“Of course.” Kibum smiled wider as he inched his face closer to Donghae’s. The pull between them only got stronger as the space between them got smaller. Donghae never got tired of the small shock of bliss that ran through his system every time Kibum’s lips touched his. It was soft, warm, and caring so much that Donghae that he was going to burst out in some sort of cheesy Disney love song at any moment.

Kibum grinned against Donghae’s lips before slowing pulling away. “I would love to continue this but you really need to go talk to Ryeowook before the poor guy burst into more sobs of guilt.”

Donghae sighed but got up. “We’re finished this when I get back.” Kibum only grinned wider at Donghae’s authoritative voice.

“Of course.”
